Real Madrid star Federico Valverde, who has been linked with a transfer to Manchester United, has expressed his contentment at the Santiago Bernabeu, effectively pouring cold water on rumours of a possible exit. The Uruguay international has been a player of vital importance for the La Liga giants since his emergence from the reserves in 2018, racking up nearly 350 appearances and clinching numerous titles, including the top-flight and Champions League.
Valverde’s adaptability has seen him fill in at right-back, on occasion, particularly given Dani Carvajal’s absence and ongoing injury issues with recent signing Trent Alexander-Arnold. However, Spanish media have been swirling with speculation about head coach Xabi Alonso’s perceived lack of faith from certain squad members.
E-Noticies have reported that United are preparing a substantial offer for Valverde, suggesting the player might be open to a transfer following an alleged rift with the club’s manager. Yet, these reports remain speculative, while it would take significant developments for the Real Madrid star to depart.
Valverde himself has essentially dismissed any talk of seeking a transfer, implying that there may have been little substance to the rumours initially. With over three years left on his contract signed in 2023, it seems unlikely that a move is on the horizon.
“I’m very happy to be part of this team,” Valverde stated in a recent interview with MARCA. “It’s an honour to have these teammates and to keep improving as a team.
“Wearing it [the captain’s armband] is fantastic. I try to bring out my best, and in recent matches it’s been difficult not to do so.
“I train to bring out the best in myself. I appreciate the support of my teammates, who always make me smile, and the coaching staff for trusting in me.”
It has been speculated for some time that United are keen to strengthen their midfield options at some point in 2026, whether that be in January or next summer.
The Red Devils were strongly linked with Brighton’s Carlos Baleba during the summer transfer window, but a deal never came to fruition as they chose to focus on other areas instead, with the Seagulls reportedly resolute on their valuation above £100million.
Baleba continues to dominate transfer speculation ahead of the January window, while Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson has also emerged as a potential target – for both Manchester sides. Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton is also expected to dominate the rumour mill in the months ahead.
