The six things to expect in King Charles’s 2024 Christmas speech | Royal | News

Royal fans will be eagerly awaiting the third Christmas speech of King Charles III‘s reign on Wednesday afternoon, with one expert highlighting what we could expect the monarch to speak on.

According to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, the King could focus on six main topics – and could be set to avoid one particularly thing altogether.

The King will address the nation on Christmas Day, much like the late Queen Elizabeth up until her final festive speech in 2021.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, the King could discuss six major topics – faith, our darkest hour, war, royal events that took place this year, a tribute to the Queen and the environment.

Mr Fitzwilliams said: “The purpose of the Christmas Day broadcast, is to spread the Christmas message of togetherness and mutual caring at a difficult time both for the Royal Family and for the world generally.

“Queen Elizabeth always stressed the religious part of the broadcast which has enormous global reach on social media and other platforms. King Charles has a great interest in matters of faith.”

Speaking on two other likely areas of conversation, he added: “The King has taken care, as has the Princess of Wales, to reach out to others during their battles with cancer. This has led William to describe the year as ‘brutal’ and the worst of his life. There may be a link with ‘our darkest times’, as Catherine has described her experiences and the state of the world with wars raging in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East.”

The King could also bring up many royal events that took place over the past twelve months, including the King and Queen’s visit to Australia in October.

Mr Fitzwilliams said: “We are likely, as usual, to see footage of the positive side of the royal year, of the King’s visit to Australia and to CHOGM [Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting] in Samoa as well as footage from some events to which Catherine has been able to attend and very likely, a tribute to Queen Camilla.”

Finally, the expert added that the King would likely speak on one particular favourite topic – the environment.

He added: “There is also very likely to be a significant environmental element in the Message, as befits a monarch who was the first public figure to speak on this subject in 1970.”

Speaking on whether the King could discuss the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, he added that it is doubtful. Mr Fitzwilliams added: “I strongly doubt that Harry and Meghan will be mentioned.”
