Max Verstappen is reportedly unimpressed with Red Bull’s decision to fire Liam Lawson after just two Grand Prix weekends.
The New Zealander failed to make it out of Q1 or score points in Melbourne and China and has reportedly already been dropped for the Japanese Grand Prix with Yuki Tsunoda promoted in his place.
According to a GPblog report, Verstappen told Red Bull earlier in the week that they should keep Lawson and afford the Kiwi driver more time, but Christian Horner and Helmut Marko went against his wishes, leaving him angry at the team.
The Milton Keynes squad are in a difficult situation heading into round three of the season after a wildly uncompetitive weekend in Shanghai. Red Bull have, in many pundits’ eyes, the fourth-fastest car in the field, and this will not be enough to deliver Verstappen a fifth successive Drivers’ Championship title.
