Police have issued an urgent appeal following the alleged sexual assault of a woman close to a graveyard. A man has been arrested and bailed as enquiries into the alleged attack in Wigan remain ongoing. The woman, who is now receiving support from specialist officers, reported being attacked between 5.30pm and 7.30pm on November 2.
This allegedly happened close to the industrial premises at the end of Cemetery Road, next to Wigan Cemetery, Greater Manchester Police said. She is believed to have been assaulted in a blue car.
Detective Constable Alex Hunter, of Wigan CID, confirmed this was an isolated incident and the incestigation remains ongoing.
He said: “I understand the concern that this will raise within the local community, but I can reassure residents that this was an isolated incident with no other related reports, and that we are investigating this crime with all resources that are available to us.”
Police are now appealing for anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.
Those in the immediate vicinity of Cemetery Road and Wigan Cemetery on November 2 between 5.30pm and 7.30pm should also speak to the force.
