Met Office issues 8-hour amber snow and power cut warning in 3 UK regions | Weather | News

The Met Office has issued amber snow warnings for 3 UK regions on Tuesday as wintry weather hits. The warning which comes into place at 11am on Tuesday will remain untill 7pm.

The unsettled weather conditions are likely to cause power cuts in several areas as snow hits three regions in the UK. The Met Office explained: “A spell of heavy snow is expected to move east across central and northern Scotland during Tuesday, clearing to wintry showers during Tuesday night. A further 5-10 cm is expected widely with 15 cm in places, particularly above 200 metres.” Tuesday is likely to remain chaotic with other yellow warnings of snow and ice in place for many areas in the country.

According to the National Weather Agency, travel disruption is expected across multiple forms of transport, with road delays likely to leave some vehicles and passengers stranded and rail or air services facing delays or cancellations.

Rural areas may become isolated, and icy conditions could lead to slips and falls, the Met Office has warned. Many pavements and cycle paths may be unusable if left untreated, it explained.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Matthew Lehnert, said: “The UK will continue to experience a range of winter weather hazards through this week, with low temperatures as well as snow showers and the risk of ice for many. A number of severe weather warnings have been issued and these are likely to be updated through the week so do keep up to date with the forecast.”
