Meghan Markle was mocked by fans online after a glitch on her brand’s website appeared to show the current stock for every product available for sale. Fans took to social media this week to upload screenshots of stock numbers for As Ever products.
The glitch appeared to show the remaining products available for sale when a considerably larger number was added to the basket. It is unclear how long the glitch, which has now been resolved, was on for, or whether the stock numbers were correct, but some fans even compared the numbers within a few hours’ difference to see how many products were sold.
But due to the large number of items available, some people resorted to mocking the Duchess, with others claiming it would take her “years” to sell the stock.
X user @RNN_RoyalNews said that the Duchess allegedly sold only 20 of her 137,435 signature fruit spread boxes in 12 hours, which would equate to roughly nine years if she wanted to sell the entire stock at the same pace.
They explained: “At this time, Meghan is sitting on roughly $23 million worth of product in stock, including 137,435 of her signature fruit spread box. The numbers last night revealed that within about 12 hours, she moved 20 of these.
“If you double that count to 40 and divide by the stock and then the number of days in a year, it appears that it will take her upwards of nine years to move all the stock if the product moves at current rates. That’s catastrophically bad.
“While this is just a small snapshot, and not an overall indicator, it seems to confirm what many have suspected.”
A second user said: “Me thinks she ordered way too much.”
A third one joked: “Coming soon to a T. J. Maxx near you.”
A fourth one agreed: “Agree. The math here seems directional rather than definitive but what a snapshot!!”
A fifth one commented: “She was absolutely sure all those products would sell like hotcakes. She wrongly assumed her fame and popularity.”
But others appeared to defend the Duchess and claimed it’s not the brand’s actual inventory.
One user wrote: “This is not real inventory. It’s drop ship, white label. The way manufacturing works for white label is she piggy backs off an existing production run. On the website the admin just puts a high out of world number so they never have to worry about being sold out online.”
A second one was of a similar opinion: “That’s not the real amount of stock she has. She just puts her label on white-label products. She doesn’t need to own all that stuff.”
At the time of writing, the glitch appears to have been fixed.
When the Daily Express tried to add 500,000 of As Ever’s Signature Fruit Spread Trio to the basket, the message read: “The quantity requested exceeds our current stock. Please adjust your order or contact support for bulk inquiries.”
When we attempted to add the same quantity for the Honey Duo Gift box, a message appeared: “The maximum quantity of this item is already in your cart.”
Neither the Duchess of Sussex nor her brand’s team have commented on the glitch.
