‘I’m a royal expert and Brits are exhausted by Meghan Markle’s grift’ | Royal | News

Meghan Markle was savaged by a royal commentator, who claimed the public are “exhausted” from her fruitless efforts to win back their support. The Duchess of Sussex launched a number of her business endeavours last year, including lifestyle brand As Ever, a new podcast series, Confession of a Female Founder and a cooking show on Netflix, titled With Love, Meghan.

Several of Meghan’s projects have been widely criticised by critics, while her ratings on Netflix took a nosedive as her show failed to grab people’s attention. This year, the Duchess is said to want to focus solely on her brand, having already released a leather bookmark ahead of a rumoured cookbook reported to hit the shelves in spring.

Now, a royal commentator has blasted Meghan and said the public have grown tired of her strategy, which was described as a “doom loop” following her royal career.

Lee Cohen, a US-based columnist/royal and foreign policy commentator, told the Daily Express: “My take is that Meghan Markle’s post-royal career is no longer a journey. It’s a loop.

“A doom loop, it seems: Launch. Hype. Disappointment. Rebrand. Repeat. By 2026, the pattern isn’t just familiar — it’s exhausting.”

He claimed that Meghan can no longer use her royal links to attract attention and her ventures must stand on their own merits, of which, “there are painfully few”.

The commenator said: “ Markle soldiers on with As Ever, the rebranded corpse of the eternally delayed American Riviera Orchard.

“It’s the ultimate influencer grift: overpriced wine, homeware, candles, and platitudes peddled as ‘aspirational.’”

Mr Cohen added: “So, 2026 in a nutshell? More launches. More breathless announcements. More delusional insistence that breakout success is one pivot away.

“But zero breakthroughs. No relevance. Just diminishing returns and public exhaustion and alienation.”

It comes as a glitch on the As Ever website recently revealed the brand’s plans to expand globally, according to insiders.

The glitch appeared to show the remaining products available for sale when a considerably larger number was added to the basket.

While some people mocked the Duchess for the large number of stock left, a source claimed the numbers reveal the business’s big next move.

A source with inside knowledge of the business and close to As Ever told the Daily Express that the recent glitch just proved how successful As Ever has been as a brand, and that the Duchess managed to sell nearly 90% of her original stock.
