Denmark’s furious message to Trump over Greenland resurfaces | World | News

A Danish MEP has sent a blunt message to Donald Trump over his plans to take Greenland during a debate in the European Parliament. The controversial remark comes as the US President has been pressurizing over acquiring Greeland, which, at the moment, is a part of Kingdom of Denmark

Speaking at the summit, Danish MEP Anders Vistisen said: “Dear president Trump. Listen very carefully. Greenland have been part of the Danish kingdom for 800 years. It’s an integrated part of our country. It is not for sale. Let me put it in words you might understand, Mr. Trump, f*** off.”

He was immediately interrupted by one of the officials at the summit saying: ” If the translation was correct, the term you used is not allowed in this house, and there will be consequences to the message you have used. It is not okay in this house of democracy. Thank you, regardless of what we think of Mr. Trump, it is not possible to use such language.”

Donald Trump has been saying he does not believe Denmark can keep Greenland secure from Russia or China. He recently said: “The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland.”

A recent post on his Truth Social platform on January 17, the US President wrote that he had subsidised Denmark and other European Union countries by not charging them trade tariffs.

He wrote that, starting from February 1, exports to the US from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Finland would all be subject to a 10 percent levy.

Several leaders across the globe have come together in Denmark’s fight against the US. The French President Emmanuel Macron took a subtle dig at Trump warning that the world is entering an era of “bullies” and the erosion of the rule of law.

While speaking at the summit in Davos, Macron said: “We do believe that we need more growth and more stability in this world, but we do prefer respect to bullies. We do prefer science to conspiracies, and we do prefer the rule of law to brutality.”

Recently, Trump threatened a 25% tariff on a slew of European countries – including Denmark, Germany, France and the UK – until the US is allowed to purchase Greenland.

Similarly, Canada has “strongly opposed” Trump’s decision to impose tariffs on European nations over their stance on Greenland, Mark Carney has said.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum, Mr Carney said: “Canada ‍strongly opposes tariffs over Greenland and calls for ‍focused talks to achieve our shared objectives ‌of ‍security and prosperity in the ‍Arctic. The old world is not coming back. We regret it but we’re not going sit around and mourn it, we’re acting in a way that’s in our interests.”
