Police are urging witnesses to come forward after reports that a teenage girl was sexually assualted in an alleyway. The 17-year-old was allegedly attacked last night near Launceston College in Cornwall by an “unknown male” in his 30s who has since been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.
The alleged victim escaped when a dog walker passed by, prompting a police response, including a helicopter. The suspect remains in custody, Devon and Cornwall Police added.
The force has now called for anyone wih information or footage to contact them on 101 or via its website, quoting 50260020682.
It said: “We are appealing for witnesses and relevant footage following a sexual assault in Launceston.
“We were called at around 9.20pm on Sunday 25 January following a report a 17-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted by an unknown male in an alleyway by Launceston College.
“The victim managed to escape when the assault was disturbed by a dog walker. Patrol units and the force helicopter were deployed.
“Following immediate enquiries, a man in his 30s was located a short time later and arrested on suspicion of sexual assault. He remains in police custody at this time.
“Anybody with information or footage which may be relevant to the investigation is asked to contact police on 101 or via our website quoting 50260020682.”
