A week ago, headlines began appearing suggesting that Sir Brian May didn’t think Queen would tour the US again because it’s too dangerous.
However, the guitar legend has now hit back, claiming his words have been “twisted”.
His original quote from an interview with the Daily Mail read: “America is a dangerous place at the moment, so you have to take that into account. It’s very sad because I feel like Queen grew up in America and we love it, but it’s not what it was. Everyone is thinking twice about going there at the moment.”
In a new video, the 78-year-old has clarified what he meant and spoken generally about future Queen and Adam Lambert tours.
After this, the Queen star spoke on his intentions around future tour plans: “I should just mention, I’ve been misquoted and there’s headlines all around the world, I can’t believe this got twisted. I did not say ‘Queen will never tour the US again’, why would I say that? We don’t have any plans at the moment, but we don’t have any plans to tour anywhere at the moment for various reasons. But, y’know, I love America and I always have done. I feel like it’s where we grew up as a band. So hopefully one day I will be back on stage there again. So anyway, you can’t believe what you see can you? That’s the problem.”
A few months ago, the guitarist told us exclusively: “We’re not talking about touring at the moment. I’m certainly not talking about touring because I’ve done 50 years of it. And I’m treasuring my time with the family at the moment and time to be able to do things like this, the astrophysics side of my life. To be able to do stuff with animals and basically spend time with my grandchildren and my animals. So that’s become very important to me. I don’t know how much longer I have left. It’s going to be finite. We know that. But to me, that’s a priority now. And I love to play. Everybody knows I love to play. I love to go to places and play and meet wonderful people. I loved working with Benson Boone. What a joy, what a treasure. I loved doing the Last Night of the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. But signing your name on a dotted line to say you’re going to be on tour for the next six months, and you cannot go home… I kind of don’t feel like doing at the moment. I like to do it in different ways where I keep control.”
