Tottenham Hotspur are poised to name Igor Tudor as interim head coach until the end of the campaign – potentially providing a clue that they could pursue Mauricio Pochettino’s return this summer. This indicates that unless he guides Spurs to an unlikely extended Champions League campaign, such as a final or even triumph, he won’t remain at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium beyond this summer.
Which prompts questions about Spurs’ next move? Pochettino will forever hold a special place in supporters’ affections. Few, if any, managers in the club’s recent history have been as beloved as the Argentine.
Naturally, securing his services before he guides the USA at their home World Cup was always a long shot, if not entirely out of the question. However, could there be a deal arranged for after the tournament concludes on July 19?
If Spurs extend an invitation, it’s difficult to imagine Pochettino declining, regardless of how the USA fares this summer.
A return to the club where he made his mark would be warmly welcomed by the fanbase. However, it’s rare for managers to replicate their initial success during a second stint at a club.
