British Gas is set to give away a year’s worth of free energy, valued at £1,748, every month to customers who are part of its membership scheme. The scheme offers prize draws and giveaways as well as savings.

Each month, British Gas members can find the latest “Win Your Bill” prize draws in their membership wallet and receive an invitation to take part by email. To become a member, you need to be a British Gas customer and register for the free membership. The membership scheme was introduced in 2025 to provide new and existing UK customers with access to exclusive savings. Its benefits are open to homeowners, tenants and landlords.

Eligibility rules to win

People must be UK residents aged 18 or over and both an existing British Gas Energy Customer and British Gas Member when the promotion closes at 11.59pm on February 28, 2026.

Customers must also opt in via the British Gas Membership wallet by 11.59pm on February 28, 2026.

This monthly prize draw offers an opportunity for one person to win one year’s worth of free energy, which will be in the sum of £1,748 via PayPal – the average UK household gas and electricity consumption – or, alternatively, bill credits on their account to the value of £1,748.

British Gas’s free energy push came days after Centrica saw its annual earnings almost halve in what the firm described as a “challenging” year.

The group reported underlying operating profits of £814million for last year, down from £1.55billion in 2024.

Earnings in its household energy supply business slumped 39% to £163m as warmer weather meant customers turned down their thermostats.

Chief executive Chris O’Shea said that while trading conditions had been difficult, the supplier had grown its customer base across its retail arm for the first time in over 10 years.

It saw UK and Ireland household customer numbers increase by 1% to 7.96 million over the year, with 7.5 million in the UK.

This was boosted by 91,000 after taking on the customer base of failed suppliers Rebel Energy and Tomato Energy last year.

Mr O’Shea said: “The environment has been challenging, and performance has varied across the business.

“However, we have remained disciplined, delivering strong operational performance and achieving customer growth across all our retail businesses simultaneously for the first time in over a decade.”
