Multiple people have been injured after Kuwait International Airport has been the target of a drone attack, an official has confirmed. It comes after Iran launched retaliation attacks across the Middle East following strikes by US and Israeli forces earlier today (February 28).
In a statement on X, The General Authority of Civil Aviation in the stat of Kuwait confirmed a drone targeted Kuwait International Airport, leaving multiple people injured and causing damage to the passenger terminal building (T1). The full statement read: “The General Authority of Civil Aviation in the State of Kuwait stated, through its official spokesperson Mr. Abdullah Al-Rajhi, that a drone targeted Kuwait International Airport, resulting in minor injuries to a number of workers, in addition to limited material damage to the passenger building (T1).
“The spokesperson clarified that the competent authorities immediately began implementing the approved emergency procedures, where the incident was handled and the site secured, and evaluation, treatment, and operational operations rearrangement works are currently underway in accordance with the highest safety standards.
“The Authority confirmed that the situation is under complete control by the concerned authorities in the country, and that the safety of passengers and workers represents the utmost priority. The Authority added that it will inform the media of any updates as soon as they become available through official channels.”
Footage provided to Eastern European news outlet Nexta shows the smoke and debris inside the building. All operations are reported to have been suspended.
