Trump gloats as Iran’s tallest bridge destroyed in huge strike killing eight people | World | News

Iran’s biggest bridge has been struck in a US strike as President Donald Trump gloats about the attack on social media. Eight people were killed and 95 injured following the attack, which came hours after the US President threatened to send Iran “back to the Stone Age”.

He shared a photo of smoke pouring from the B1 bridge in Karaj – roughly 20 miles southwest of Tehran – which links two of the country’s largest cities. He wrote: “The biggest bridge in Iran comes tumbling down, never to be used again – Much more to follow!

“IT IS TIME FOR IRAN TO MAKE A DEAL BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE, AND THERE IS NOTHING LEFT OF WHAT STILL COULD BECOME A GREAT COUNTRY!”

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said: “Striking civilian structures, including unfinished bridges, will not compel Iranians to surrender. It only conveys the defeat and moral collapse of an enemy in disarray.”

Iranian state TV said there were two strikes on the bridge, the latter one targeting emergency teams deployed to help the victims of the first one.

He said: “Our objectives are clear: dismantle Iran’s ability to threaten America and project power beyond its borders. That means destroying its navy, crippling its air force and missile program, and eliminating its military-industrial base.

“We have achieved all of this. These actions will cripple Iran’s military, cut off support for terrorist proxies, and prevent the development of nuclear weapons.

“Our armed forces have performed with extraordinary skill and strength. Tonight, I can report that our core strategic objectives are nearing completion.”
