Gylfi Sigurdsson’s life now with wife and huge net worth after leaving Everton | Football | Sport

Gylfi Sigurdsson is winding down his football career back in his homeland on a fraction of what he was earning in his Premier League days. The former Everton midfielder, now 36, joined the Toffees from Swansea City for a club-record fee of £45million in 2017.

Sigurdsson was a first-team regular for his first four years at Goodison, only to be left out of Everton’s final Premier League squad in September 2021. That marked the beginning of the end of the former Tottenham man’s time on Merseyside, as he departed the club the following summer when his contract expired. A period in the wilderness ensued before he signed for Danish outfit Lyngby Boldklub in June 2023, having held discussions with DC United, who were managed at the time by Wayne Rooney. He departed Lyngby after just six months, however.

New job

He returned to Iceland, initially with Valur before switching to fellow Reykjavik club Vikingur in February 2025. He featured in the Europa Conference League qualifying rounds at the start of this campaign before being eliminated by Brondby.

The Besta deild karla, Iceland’s top-flight division, has just kicked off, with Sigurdsson netting Vikingur’s goal in their 1-1 draw against Breidablik. Sigurdsson remains an integral figure for his nation, featuring in recent friendly matches against Mexico (a 4-0 defeat) and Haiti (a 1-1 draw). He had spent three years away from the international set-up before being recalled for the Euro 2024 qualifying fixtures against Luxembourg and Liechtenstein.

Net worth

According to Salary Sport, Sigurdsson boasts a net worth of approaching £25m, accumulated through his years in the Premier League. During his stint at Everton, he was reportedly earning £120,000 per week, in excess of £6m annually.

By contrast, he is now understood to be taking home just £2,200 a week (£114,000 a year) at Vikingur, a figure comparable to that of a player in the fourth or fifth tiers of English football.

Model wife

Sigurdsson is wed to Alexandra Iversdottir, a model and former Miss Iceland. Following that accolade, she went on to represent her country at Miss World, where she finished in the top 15.

Much like her husband, Iversdottir possesses a sporting streak, having claimed victory in Miss World Sports, a decathlon competition in which Miss World contestants go head-to-head across a range of fitness challenges and activities.

The couple have been married for nearly seven years, having exchanged vows at Lake Como, Italy, in June 2019. The pair first met in 2010, while Sigurdsson was plying his trade at Reading. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Melros Mia Gylfadottir, in May 2021.
