King Charles heads to NY to honour terror victims after Trump bombshell | Royal | News

King Charles and Queen Camilla are heading to New York today for a day full of engagements, hours after Donald Trump’s bombshell comment about the war in Iran. The King and Queen will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks that brought down New York’s Twin Towers by laying flowers at one of the memorial pools.

The royal couple were officially welcomed to the US on Tuesday with all the pomp and pageantry at the White House, before attending a lavish state dinner hosted by the US President and his wife, Melania. While at the state dinner, Mr Trump sparked controversy after he said the King “agrees with him” that Iran should never be allowed nuclear weapons.

As head of state, the King is above party politics and remains neutral. A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: “The King is naturally mindful of his Government’s long-standing and well-known position on the prevention of nuclear proliferation.”
