WTA Tour stars branded ‘super fake’ and ‘two-faced’ infellow pro rant | Tennis | Sport

Sachia Vickery claims players and coaches on the WTA Tour are ‘super fake’ and ‘two-faced’ in the locker rooms. The American says they all laugh and ‘talk s**t about each other’ behind the scenes, but will then smile when they see that same person.

Vickery, 30, turned professional 15 years ago and continues to play on the ITF and WTA circuits, ranking as high as world No. 73 in 2018, but is currently ranked 697 in singles. She has won two of nine matches so far this year, both at the Vero Beach International Tennis Open, reaching the quarter-finals of that W75 tournament before losing to her compatriot Whitney Osuigwe.

Ahead of her latest match at the FineMark Women’s Pro Tennis Championship, she answered questions from her followers on Instagram. One asked, “What are WTA players like on the tour in the locker rooms? Does everyone get along?”

Vickery replied: “Super fake and two-faced, players/coaches they all talk s**t about each other and laugh, then smile in their face when they see them, it’s crazy work. Some girls are cool tho (sic) I have good friends on tour!”

She lost her match hours later to Gabriela Lee, retiring two games into the second set, both of which hestraight-setsn, after losing the opening set 7-5. Vickery has now lost five matches in a row across the ITF and WTA tours, with her previous one being a straight sets defeat to Donna Vekic at the WTA 500 in Charleston.

Vickery is not new to making controversial comments on social media. During another Q&A on Instagram last year, she said: “I no longer date for free due to the behaviour of men. I now require a pre-date deposit. Send me 1,000 [dollars], and we can make it happen.” However, she clarified in an interview with CNN last summer that it was a joke.

She also posts content on OnlyFans, but says there is “no sexual content on there”. Vickery explained: “I’m really pushing the boundaries, but I’m never fully naked. I’ve never done sex videos.” The American claims to do so because it is an “easy source of income”.

Vickery also says fellow players have spoke to her about it. She said: “We don’t have the luxury of having a safety net or financial freedom if we’re not inside the top 100. I have had players, you know, kind of ask me curiously, ‘what’s the money on there? Is it worth looking into?’ If you’re injured, you’re not making any money. Even when you’re playing a full year, a lot of players are in the red. I wouldn’t be surprised if I started seeing more players on there.”
