MotoGP star lands on head in terrifying crash as medics rush to track | F1 | Sport

MotoGP icon Marc Marquez was taken to a nearby medical centre after landing on his head during a horrifying crash. Marquez was taking part in a sprint race at the iconic Le Mans circuit when his bike lost control on turn 14 during the penultimate lap. The MotoGP superstar was flung from his machine and struck the ground head-first in the terrifying incident.

Remarkably, the Spaniard managed to walk away from the smash, making his way to the circuit’s medical centre, where he underwent further examination from doctors stationed on site. Subsequent X-rays revealed he had escaped with a broken metatarsal, ruling him out of Sunday’s Grand Prix as well as the following week’s Catalan Grand Prix.

The Ducati rider had put his foot down on the track just before the crash, but was flipped over the handlebars.

A statement from Ducati confirmed: “Following the crash during the SPRINT at #FrenchGP and after a medical check and X-ray @marcmarquez93 was declared unfit for a 5th metatarsal fracture in his right foot.

“He will fly to Madrid tonight to undergo surgery. He will not participate in #CatalanGP”.

Marquez is fifth in the standings but has yet to register a place on the podium this season.

Marquez claimed world championships in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 while riding for Honda, before adding a seventh title last season with Ducati.

Footage of the crash quickly went viral on social media, with one user commenting: “Márquez was really lucky that the bike didn’t hit him after that highside. It came really close!

“That was a brutal crash… I hope Marc is ok after that,” a second responded. And another commented: “OK what’s going on cause last year all you heard was him dominating and winning everything and all I’ve heard of him this year is him crashing…”
