The respective paths of Kristoffer Reitan and Brandt Snedeker to The PGA Championship are particularly impressive.
The latter made a superb four birdies in the final six holes to claim a one shot lead in the Myrtle Beach Classic and a first major event victory in eight years.
After the final round, he said: “I feel amazing. I feel so lucky to still be out here still doing what I love to do.
“To have a chance to win a golf tournament at my age and to be able to pull it out is something super special. I’m just so pumped.”
Reitan meanwhile, has been slowly improving his finishes with a T-15 at the Cadillac Championship earlier this month, an event he was not actually supposed to compete in until Jake Knapp pulled out through injury.
The Norwegian has only competed at three other major events but cannot be discounted this weekend after his recent displays.
After winning the Truist Championship, he said: “I don’t have any words, to be honest,” he said in the moments after his victory. “This is way more than I expected, and for it to happen this quickly is just unreal. Dream come true.”
“It helped me find my game again,” he said. “It helped me discover my talents again. It was something really important to me, which I try to remind myself of every single day.”
