People who have bought certain perfumes from a popular high street shop are being urged to check whether they are part of a recent recall due to “chemical” safety concerns. It covers several popular brands and celebrity-backed fragrances.
An official recall alert was issued by Gov.uk on May 18. It has also been shared by consumer group Which? in an Instagram post, which says: “Urgent recall: 15 fragrances sold at Savers may contain prohibited chemicals. Stop using affected products immediately.”
A post by the Office for Product Safety and Standards also reads: “The products present a serious chemical risk as they contain butylphenyl methylpropional (BMHCA/lilial) and/or hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde. Both chemicals are prohibited in cosmetic products. BMHCA may harm the reproductive system, may harm the health of the unborn child, and may cause skin sensitisation.
“Affected products have been recalled by Savers Health and Beauty. Anyone with these products should return them to the Savers store where the product was purchased, for a full refund.
“Only products purchased in Savers Health and Beauty stores with the barcodes listed are affected by this recall. If you are unsure if you have one of the above products, please contact Savers Health and Beauty on help@savers.co.uk or visit: https://www.savers.co.uk/prodrecall“.
Savers said that perfumes with certain barcodes were affected by this recall, and not every product. A spokesperson added: “If you are unsure if you have one of the above products, please speak to our store teams who will be happy to help. Savers would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Product recalls are commonly issued by brands when items are deemed unsafe to remain with customers. Recently, shoppers received a new ‘health risk’ alert about a popular meal ingredient.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) announced on Saturday that Filippo Berio UK is recalling Filippo Berio Hot Chilli Pesto after it was found to contain fish that was not declared on the packaging. The particular product comes in a 190g pack size, carrying a batch code of LR319 and a best-before date of May 15, 2028.
Other recent recalls include a range of children’s products designed for babies and toddlers that have been subject to an urgent recall notice, alongside a common cooking ingredient that nearly proved fatal to a 14-month-old in recent weeks.
