When the Championship, League One and League Two fixtures are released:

  • Fixture release date: While the Premier League calendar has now been confirmed, the English Football League (EFL) announced that its official fixtures will be released next Thursday, June 25. That goes for the Championship, League 1 and League 2.
  • Time of annoucement: Schedules for every division will be published at 12pm at the same time. Supporters can access the full 46-game fixture list through club websites and official EFL platforms.
  • Cup competitions included: Alongside the league fixture announcement, the first-round draw for the Carabao Cup and the Vertu Trophy group-stage draw will also be held on Thursday, June 25.
  • Season begins: The 2026/27 campaign officially starts with the Carabao Cup first round, which is set for the weekend of August 7-10. (Note: A preliminary round involving selected lower-league sides will be played earlier, from August 1-3.)
  • First league matches: The opening set of Championship, League 1 and League 2 fixtures will be staged the following weekend, across August 14-17. The Premier League season will begin one week later.
  • Broadcast scheduling: As part of the EFL’s commitment to providing advance notice for travelling fans, television selections for the first half of the season will be confirmed well ahead of time. The opening weekend will be shown live on Sky Sports and Sky Sports+.
  • Viewing options: More than 1,000 EFL, Carabao Cup and Vertu Trophy games will be available live in the UK through Sky Sports and Sky Sports+. In the United States, CBS Sports is set to broadcast a minimum of 250 live matches.
  • Major Championship format update: A new play-off structure will be introduced for the 2026/27 season. Six clubs will now take part instead of four. Teams finishing third and fourth will advance directly to the semi-finals, while fifth hosts eighth and sixth hosts seventh in newly created single-leg quarter-finals.
