This is the moment a man lashes out at a policeman with his own baton before fleeing on an electric bike. Video shows a scuffle breaking out during a stop and search in Soho Road, Handsworth, Birmingham, on Friday (July 3).
Officers can be seen in the clip kneeing a man in the leg and battling to get him on the ground, ordering him to “get on the floor”. Two officers from West Midlands Police struggle to restrain the man as he clings to railings. At one point an officer can be seen trying to pull the man away by the leg.
As the man keeps resisting, one of the officers can be heard warning him he will use his Taser.
The man, who is dressed from head to toe in black, reaches for a police baton dropped during the struggle and left lying on the ground.
He then hits one of the officers over the head before jumping on an electric bike and speeding off, leaving the policeman lying on the pavement.
The second officer tries in vain to grab the thug as he rides away with the baton still in his hand past shocked onlookers.
At the end of the video, the officer who was hit can be seen getting back onto his feet and appear to use his police radio.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “We’re investigating an incident on Soho Road, Birmingham, and want to speak to Mahroy Stephenson.
“During a stop and search by officers… one officer suffered a head injury. He was treated at hospital and thankfully has since been discharged.”
