A seaplane carrying eight people crashed into a river in New York on Sunday. Emergency services rushed to the scene as the plane hit the water of New York City’s East River.
Photos and pictures of the scene circulating online showed one wing submerged and crews at work to rescue the passengers.
All eight passengers were rescued, with two being treated at the scene for minor injuries. The crash took place near the Manhattan ferry and Skyport terminal, near the 23rd Street and FDR Drive.
The crash took place just after 12pm local time. At least five ships were seen at the scene to respond to the emergency, and another seaplane was also spotted helping with the operations. Police said an investigation is ongoing.
The New York Post said this crash followed another incident that took place less than a month ago “after another seaplane was rescued from the East River after it was struck by a wave during takeoff and left it struggling in the water near the Throgs Neck Bridge”.
