Harry Kane was forced to end an interview with the BBC, due to losing his voice, causing much hilarity among fans. The England captain scored what turned out to be the winning goal in a dramatic 3-2 victory over Mexico.

England booked their place in the World Cup quarter-final with the win. They will take on Norway on Saturday evening.

In the moments after the full-time whistle, after celebrating with fans, Kane took part in an interview with the BBC. Although it quickly became apparent that he had no voice left, his answers came out slightly more squeakier than usual.

From what he could manage, Kane said: “It was a crazy game. We had to fight and we had to find something. I’ve just been singing, I can’t really talk. The occasion, the team, everything against us, we found a way.”

Fans were quick to take to social media to give their reaction to the interview. “The altitude got to Harry Kane! One of the greatest things I’ve ever heard,” one said.

A second said: “I’m crying at this Harry Kane voice, it’s so gone Kane sounding like Kermit the frog.” A third added: “Even Harry Kane’s voice is shot to pieces after that heroic performance against Mexico.”

After a cagey opening half an hour, a quickfire Jude Bellingham double gave England a 2-0 lead in the first half. Mexico however made it 2-1 through Julian Quinones before half time.

Less than 10 minutes into the second half, England were reduced to 10 men after Jarell Quansah was shown a straight red card after a VAR check. But just six minutes later, England were given the chance to make it 3-1 when Anthony Gordon was fouled in the box, with Kane making no mistake from the penalty spot.

Mexico were awarded a penalty of their own after another VAR check concluded that Kane had fouled his opponent in the box. Raul Jiminez stepped up to make it 3-2 in the 69th minute and set up a grandstand finish.

Despite their deficit in numbers, and 11 minutes of added time, the Three Lions defended heroically to see out the win. Their award in a place in the final eight.
