New footage shows Jordan Henderson injury in exact detail after England blow | Football | Sport

The former Liverpool captain needed oxygen as he underwent medical treatment and was rushed straight to hospital. Speaking in a post-match interview with the BBC, England boss Thomas Tuchel conceded it appeared “really bad” and suggested surgery might be necessary.

Tuchel said: “Not good, not good, next thing is a right defender now with the red card, Jordan just fell over an injured his wrist, it looks really bad.” Later, in his press conference, Tuchel revealed: “He injured his wrist, he’s gone to hospital it’s quite a serious injury. It doesn’t fit with the night. I don’t know if there will be a procedure.”

Now, fresh footage has exposed the precise moment Henderson suffered the injury. Following England’s customary post-victory ritual – jumping over the advertising hoardings to join supporters for a rendition of Oasis’ Wonderwall — the players began making their way back onto the pitch.

But Henderson did not return unscathed. Indeed, after watching Dan Burn clamber back over the advertising hoardings, Henderson appeared to catch something on his return before losing his footing and crashing to the ground.

It was the landing itself that proved costly. As the Brentford midfielder attempted to break his fall, he planted his left arm on the turf, only for his wrist to appear to snap on impact.

Henderson’s teammates quickly gathered around him to form a huddle as medical staff rushed to his aid, before he was stretchered off the pitch while receiving oxygen. The distressing incident unfolded as he and his teammates were celebrating a hard-fought 3-2 victory. England had stormed into a 2-0 lead courtesy of a Jude Bellingham brace, before Julian Quinones pulled one back for Mexico just before the interval.

Mexico’s confidence grew further when right-back Jarell Quansah was dismissed for a reckless challenge early in the second half, yet Tuchel’s men responded immediately through skipper Kane’s penalty after Anthony Gordon was felled. Raul Jimenez converted a spot-kick of his own to halve the deficit for a second time and set English nerves jangling, but Tuchel’s side held firm to secure the three points.

England will now face Norway in the World Cup quarter-final in Miami on Saturday evening. Stale Solbakken’s side booked their place in the last eight after Erling Haaland‘s brace produced a stunning 2-1 upset against Brazil.
