Morrisons to reopen food counters across 13 UK stores – full list | UK | News

Morrisons has announced it is relaunching two of its popular food counters in stores following customer backlash. The supermarket has announced it is bringing back its fish and meat food counters after axing 70 of them last year. Morrisons also closed 52 cafés, 13 florists, four pharmacies and all 18 branches of its Market Kitchen format.

However, the retailer has now confirmed that selected stores will see their traditional Market Street counters return, with five locations already welcoming them back and a further eight stores set to follow.

The supermarket has not confirmed whether all of the 70 previously closed counters will eventually return, but said more locations could be announced in the future.

A spokesperson for Morrisons said: “Our Market Street counters are part of our DNA. They are at the heart of our offer and a real differentiator for Morrisons.

“We closed a small number of meat and fish counters last year – and have learned a lot from that. We have listened to customers and are now planning to re-open a number of these over the coming months. So, customers can look forward to having skilled butchers and fishmongers back in store to prepare their meat and fish just the way they like it.

“The re-opened counters will incorporate flatbeds and grab and go options, and all of the significant learnings on yield and waste that the business has made over the last twelve months, to make them more efficient, while delivering the traditional counter service that customers love.
