Manchester United appear poised for a substantial boost to their transfer kitty this summer, despite the looming £50million acquisition of Andrey Santos from Chelsea. The Brazilian is set to make the switch to Old Trafford this summer, with the 22-year-old due to complete a medical before putting pen to paper on a long-term deal.

Michael Carrick is expected to forge a formidable midfield partnership, with Santos on track to line up alongside Ederson. As it stands, the announcement is anticipated within days following Brazil’s exit from the World Cup, while medical examinations are being finalised.

Additional funds could yet be available for reinforcements elsewhere courtesy of an agreement struck in 2024. Mason Greenwood, currently registered with Marseille, is edging closer to a £34.1m transfer to Fenerbahce.

The move is set to be completed after prolonged discussions between the two sides, with the Turkish outfit raising their bid and incorporating add-ons to bring the package near Marseille’s £42m asking price, according to Fabrizio Romano.

However, Marseille will be required to pass on a substantial portion of the fee to United due to the transfer agreement that brought him to the Stade Velodrome two years ago. Greenwood left Old Trafford in a £26.6m deal in 2024 after United determined he could no longer continue at the club.

The academy product was suspended by United when he faced charges of attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and controlling and coercive behaviour in 2022. The forward denied the charges, which were subsequently dropped, but found himself marginalised at Old Trafford before departing for Marseille following a loan spell at Getafe.

United are believed to have included a sell-on clause in their arrangement with Marseille, securing them up to 50 per cent of any future transfer fee. That would deliver them a significant £17m windfall for their transfer budget, which will prove useful after paying £48m up front to Chelsea for Santos.

Greenwood’s displays have drawn attention from numerous clubs across Europe after netting 26 goals and registering 11 assists in all competitions during 2025/26. Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus have all tracked his progress, but ambitious Fenerbahce are leading the race.

While Greenwood had previously suggested he was keen to remain with the French side, it seems the club have now made the decision for him. Speaking after earning a place in Ligue 1’s team of the season, he said: “This season has sometimes been difficult collectively, especially in recent months, but individually, I think I’ve had a good season.

“There are some incredible players in this team of the year, so it’s nice to receive this trophy. Ligue 1 is a wonderful league. We play incredible matches and, for me, it’s one of the best leagues I’ve played in. I hope I can stay.”
