A major fire has broken out in Edinburgh after flames engulfed a historic building on the city’s famous Princes Street in the early hours of Thursday.
Emergency services were called to 109-111 Princes Street at around 4am, with dramatic images and videos shared on social media showing thick smoke and flames lighting up the skyline near Edinburgh Castle.
Firefighters from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service remain at the scene as they work to bring the blaze under control. The cause of the fire has not yet been established.
The incident has forced the closure of part of Princes Street, and is likely to cause disruption across the city centre during the morning rush hour.
