Trump inflicts huge blow on Iran as key nuclear plant perimeter ‘hit in US strike’ | World | News

Donald Trump has inflicted a major blow on Iran after a US projectile reportedly struck the area around a crucial Iranian nuclear power plant. Several areas in Bushehr were hit by the strikes, including in the perimeter of its nuclear facility, the deputy governor of the province said.

Multiple explosions were also heard in the province the morning following the US President’s latest wave of overnight attacks. The Bushehr nuclear facility has already been targeted by the US and Israel, with the March strikes prompting a dire warning about the safety of the area.

The International Atomic Energy Agency warned at the time that attacks could result in “a major radiological accident”.

Explosions were also reported in Bandar Abbas, in the Hormozgan province of Iran.

This comes after the US and Iran traded strikes for a second night in a row, with Washington saying it hit some 90 military targets.

Iranian authorities said 14 people were killed in the past two days of attacks, some of which targeted areas near the Strait of Hormuz.

The country’s foreign ministry called the strikes a “gross war crime”, alleging that they targeted civilian infrastructure such as railway bridges.

Mr Trump said on Wednesday that the ceasefire agreement signed with Iran last month was now “over”.

He said: “I don’t want to deal with them anymore; they’re scum. You know what scum is? They’re scum. They’re sick people.”

Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, the US President said Iran “called a little while ago” and “so badly” wanted to make a deal.

He added: “I just don’t know if they’re worthy of making a deal – I don’t know that they’re going to honour the deal, that’s the problem.”
