Cruz Hewitt was hoping to follow in his father’s footsteps by claiming some silverware at Wimbledon.
Former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt won the men’s singles title here in 2002. And 24 years later, his teenage son, Cruz, found himself in the junior boys’ final.
Cruz, 17, came up against American qualifier Jordan Lee. But he blew a 4-2 lead in the final set and lost 4-6 6-4 7-5 as the qualifier, who only turned 16 in May, was crowned the junior champion.
“Obviously, I grew up around this tournament, seen my dad play on this court for many years now. It’s been a privilege to play on any court here, and being around the fans. Thanks everyone for coming out,” the Aussie said after losing in the final.
