Carlos Alcaraz has congratulated Jannik Sinner on winning yesterday’s Wimbledon final to clinch his second title in as many years. The young Italian outclassed Alexander Zverev in four sets to retain the iconic golden trophy, having won it for the first time in 2025. He conceded the first set but went on to win the next three and claim a comprehensive 6-7 7-6 6-3 6-4 triumph.

Sinner went into the tournament as the heavy favourite to go all the way, mainly because Alcaraz was not playing. He was forced to skip Wimbledon due to a wrist injury that also ruled him out of the French Open. As a result, the Spaniard had to watch the action from home, but he was quick to congratulate Sinner following his victory over Zverev.

Taking to Instagram with a brief message for his sporting rival, Alcaraz wrote: “Congratulations Jannik and team! Enjoy the moment!”

The rivalry between the two players has intensified in recent years, but their relationship has remained good-natured with little sign of tension or bitterness.

They have shared the last four Wimbledon titles, with Alcaraz winning in 2023 and 2024 and Sinner prevailing in 2025 and 2026.

Speaking after his victory in the final, Sinner expressed hope that Alcaraz would return to the court quickly to provide more competition for trophies.

“Big, big respect to Sascha [Zverev], because he’s doing something amazing,” he began. “His game is growing and growing. In the same time, that’s exactly what’s good, because you have always someone who is pushing you to the limit.

“We hope that Carlos is coming back, as well, because tennis needs him. Having Novak [Djokovic] still around, having all the young players coming, it’s really, really nice. At the same time, you always need to work hard and have moments like this.”

Sinner managed to win Wimbledon just weeks after his second-round exit at the French Open despite not playing any warm-up tournaments on grass.

Reflecting on his whirlwind few months, he said: “I think every Grand Slam is different, you know. Different story, different environment, different feelings before the tournament.

“For me, this one means a lot because was a tough one after Paris again. Last year was also tough, but coming here, I tried to put myself in the best possible position to be as competitive as possible.

“Yeah, we put in a lot of workdays in Monaco, very, very long. Definitely sacrificing a lot of my time and everything to be in this position. Having this achievement, it means a lot to me. Yeah, it was an amazing day today.

“I have improved throughout the whole tournament. If you see the performance from the first two, three matches, then how I ended the tournament, it has been always growing.

“That’s exactly what I needed. I was looking for this improvement, a player improvement, from my side. We made it happen. Of course, mentally you need to make the switch, as well, to be able to do so.”
