Royal Family LIVE: Harry breaks silence after ‘disaster’ UK trip with 2-word comment | Royal | News

Prince Harry has broken his silence over England’s defeat at the World Cup. The Duke of Sussex was asked for his reaction to his country’s 2-1 loss at the semi-final against Argentina at an event in New York City on Thursday (July 16).

In a solo appearance without wife, Meghan Markle, the Duke was at the TIME100 Sports Gala where he was asked if he was sad at the result. To which he replied: “Of course.”

His comments came after the Duke’s trip to the UK, the timing of which was labelled a “disaster” by royal author Robert Jobson, because it coincided with Harry losing a High Court battle against the publisher of the Daily Mail. Harry had backed England to go all the way and win the tournament, telling The Traitors star Joe Marler’s podcast before the match: “I think it’s coming home. [It’s] not going to be easy. [It] never is.”

The prince was not the only royal to express disappointment at the result. His estranged brother, Prince William, posted on X that he was “gutted” at the result.

He said: “England, you gave it everything and we are all so proud of you. Thank you to everyone on and off the pitch, for an incredible tournament. The fight and belief you have shown has inspired us all. The most complete England team in a tournament. Hold your heads high.”
