Meghan Markle has been savaged online by critics after her latest announcement. Meghan received good news this week when she found out that her Netflix series has been nominated for an Emmy Award. With Love, Meghan received a nod for Outstanding Lifestyle Program. The show has received mixed reviews, and some fans enjoy the series for its recipe and craft content, as well as the little glimpses they get into Meghan’s California life.
Being one of the most talked-about celebrities on the planet, Meghan’s Emmy nomination was bound to result in criticism and backlash from some royal fans. While many of the former working royal’s friends and family have shared their messages of congratulations for Meghan, some social media users have blasted the show and its Emmy nod. In fact, one US politician went as far as to call the Emmy nominations “rigged”.
Meghan took to Instagram to announce the news. “A huge congratulations to the amazing crew, producers, and team who worked on ‘With Love, Meghan’ on @netflix,” she wrote on Instagram.
As expected, she received a slew of unfavourable commentary about the show as a result of the nomination. “She’s wasted no time getting around to crowing about her Daytime Emmy nomination for her contrived, critically panned, embarrassing flop.”
Another said: “You know… the obviously worthless Emmy that you can apply for yourself. The delusion runs deep with Meghan.”
The show has received mixed reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a score of just 38%.
“Nevertheless, given how polarising MM is & that the show had completely lacklustre ongoing watching views, it is somewhat baffling.”
She added: “The really weak commercial traction of her show, with dreadfully low ongoing watching demonstrated by lack of audience appeal, doesn’t warrant such an award, but no doubt it will garner the aforementioned media attention.”
There is currently no evidence of impropriety in the Emmy’s nominations process. The Daily Express has approached the Emmy’s for comment.
Meghan’s show featured guest appearances from Mindy Kaling, Tan France and Chrissy Teigen across its two seasons, with episodes focusing on gardening, cooking and other lifestyle topics.
