The recent spell of hot weather is set to give way to cooler temperatures and even some light rain, with the Met Office forecasting precipitation on Monday. Several areas across the UK are set to see light rainfall, Met Office weather maps suggest.
Northern Ireland and Scotland look set to be hit the most, particularly in the early hours of July 20, between midnight and 7am. While much of Wales and the South West are set to remain dry, the far eastern side of England may also be hit by some rain, albeit the intensity is forecast to be below 0.5mm per hour.
By 10am tomorrow, maps suggest the rain may move towards East Anglia, hitting Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.
While downpours appear unlikely anywhere in the country, the UK looks set for cooler temperatures, with the mercury not going over 25C, the maps also suggest.
Met Office meteorologist Tom Morgan said today: “It will turn increasingly damp across northern Scotland as we go through the coming night.
“Some patchy rain possibly filtering down into parts of Northern Ireland as well, but for most, it will stay dry, lengthy clear period, perhaps some isolated mist and fog patches forming in the countryside, and a much widely cooler night to come tonight, so a much more comfortable night sleep.”
Central and south-east England have seen the longest unbroken spell of no recorded rainfall this century, forecasters have said.
There has been zero rainfall recorded across the Met Office’s weather stations in both regions for 14 days in a row, from July 2 to July 15, according to the organisation.
Parts of the UK have experienced three heatwave so far this year, while the European continent continues to experience a hot spell.
