Directed by Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame directors, the Russo Brothers, this new Marvel epic is a direct sequel to the latter film. And if that wasn’t enough, Robert Downey Jr returns to the MCU not as Iron Man (he’s dead) but as the villainous Doctor Doom, a scientific genius and sorcerer from the comics.
Chris Hemsworth’s Thor dominates this trailer, once again as the more serious short-haired take on the Asgardian god last seen in Avengers Infinity War. Meanwhile, Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers is back (young this time, not old like in Endgame) and still wielding Mjolnir.
Doomsday is a proper Avengers multiverse crossover, featuring the original X-Men cast and the new MCU Fantastic Four for the first time ever. And what’s particularly frightening about Downey’s Doom (who is masked for the entire trailer) is that he can stop Thor’s Stormbreaker with a single finger. Eat your heart out Thanos!
The film’s official synopsis reads: “In Avengers: Doomsday, beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered.”
