Alex de Minaur experienced a scare on his wedding day after revealing that his car for the occasion initially refused to start. The Australian tied the knot with British tennis star Katie Boulter across two ceremonies, cementing their place as one of the sport’s power couples.
The pair started dating in 2020 and De Minaur popped the question during a trip to Alicante in December 2024. The couple began their wedding celebrations with a small ceremony in Leicestershire, near the village of Woodhouse Eaves, where Boulter grew up. They exchanged vows in front of just eight guests before jetting off to an estate in Tuscany for a grander celebration with family and friends, which spanned three days. However, despite the idyllic setting, De Minaur briefly felt embarrassed as he tried to drive his wife away from the ceremony.
Boulter, 29, wore a Vivienne Westwood dress for her hometown wedding before switching to a Caroline Castigliano gown for her Italian ceremony, also stitching in a part of her grandmother’s wedding dress herself. Meanwhile, De Minaur opted for Ralph Lauren tuxedos as he aimed for a 007-style look, though the 27-year-old quickly became shaken and stirred as he attempted to leave their Tuscan venue.
“I wanted to feel like James Bond,” De Minaur told British Vogue about his wedding outfits. However, the 1956 Porsche Speedster he purchased for the big day refused to start twice in front of their guests. He said: “Everyone thought I was joking, but I was stressed out of my mind!”
Reflecting on their two wedding ceremonies, Boulter said: “Ultimately, it was about our families – and joining them.” While De Minaur summed up his thoughts on the pair’s wedding celebrations: “It felt like our own movie.”
Their intimate Leicestershire ceremony took place during the men’s Wimbledon final earlier this month but the newlyweds are not planning to take an extended break from the sport after their nuptials. Speaking ahead of Wimbledon, Boulter detailed the couple’s post-wedding plan to compete in the upcoming WTA and ATP events in Washington.
“I don’t want to take weeks off,” she said. “I think I’m very aligned with Alex that we both want to go back to Washington. Obviously, I’m going to enjoy every minute of my own personal life, but at the same time, I’m also going to keep my head down.”
When asked if she planned to change her name, Boulter replied: “It’s a great question. We’re gonna find out. We’re gonna find out. I don’t know. That decision’s also not been made!”
