A loveable dog who was poisoned and left battling for her life is now searching for a forever home after defying an act of unimaginable cruelty.
Frida, a two-and-a-half year old Kangal cross, had done nothing more than peacefully inhabit a beach in Argos, Greece, where she delighted tourists with her warm and friendly nature.
Her life was turned upside down in an instant, however, when she and another female stray were forcibly removed from the beach and abandoned in a remote village where they were far from welcome.
Despite being well known for her gentle temperament and fondness for people, including children, Frida quickly became a target.
Shortly after her arrival, rescuers discovered the large dog frothing at the mouth after someone had deliberately poisoned her.
Fortunately, emergency treatment spared her life.
Reflecting on her rescue, a Greek Stray ResQ worker said: “I haven’t added the graphic images of her frothing at the mouth from being poisoned. But it really is a miracle that she survived.
“If ever a dog deserve to have a loving home this beautiful gentle giant is one of them.”
Following weeks of dedicated care, Frida made a complete recovery and has refused to allow her harrowing ordeal to alter her character.
Remarkably, despite enduring the very worst of human cruelty, she still adores people and greets each new face with warmth and affection. The composed and loving Kangal mix is described as extraordinarily sociable, friendly, and perfectly suited to family life.
She adores being around people and has a particularly tender nature with children.
Now safely in the hands of her rescuers, Frida is in good health and ready to embark on the next chapter of her life – yet what she needs above all else is a family prepared to offer her the love and security she has never experienced.
Those who rescued her say Frida has already demonstrated remarkable resilience, having survived a near-fatal poisoning and gradually learning to trust humans once more.
Her carers now hope that somebody will open their home and heart to this gentle giant, giving her the happy ending she so richly deserves.
Frida is currently based in Greece but is able to travel internationally, including to the UK, once a suitable adopter is found.
