Lieutenant Colonel David Annotel, spokesperson for the National Firefighters Federation of France, told franceinfo that the “real challenge is endurance”.
The official explained that the situation is very similary to the 2022 Landiras wildfire. The Landiras fire was one of the largest fires in modern French history. It wasn’t officially declared extinguished until October 2025.
He said: “We’re looking at a similar situation. For many weeks and months, crews from all over France will have to continue rotating in.
“We need to make the most of the next two or three days, while temperatures remain relatively normal, to slow the fire’s spread and reach a point where it is no longer feeding so heavily on vegetation or on the increasing heat.
“Higher temperatures will make conditions much tougher. Days will be harder, and nights will also become more difficult.”
