Sainsbury’s introduces £1 change to Nectar scheme in 1,300 UK stores | Personal Finance | Finance

Sainsbury’s has introduced a new £1 change to its Nectar scheme that changes the way shoppers can collect points.

The supermarket is now allowing customers to collect Nectar points on rapid grocery deliveries after expanding its partnership with Uber Eats. The partnership means that shoppers can now earn one Nectar point for every £1 spent when ordering Sainsbury’s groceries via the Uber Eats app or ubereats.com, with the rollout bringing rapid delivery with rewards to customers shopping from more than 1,300 stores across the UK.

Sainsbury’s said this integration builds on its existing capability to redeem points for Uber vouchers, allowing customers to seamlessly collect and spend Nectar points across the entire Uber ecosystem.

To collect Nectar points on Uber Eats, shoppers need to link their Nectar card in the Uber Eats app and then shop for Sainsbury’s groceries on Uber Eats, with every £1 spent earning one Nectar point automatically.

To spend Nectar points, shoppers simply need to open the Nectar App and head to ‘Partners’, and then swap Nectar points for an Uber voucher to save on their next Uber ride or food delivery.

Mark Given, Sainsbury’s chief technology, marketing and data officer said: “We’re creating even more ways for people to get great value from Nectar through our partnership with Uber.

“Nectar members can already turn their points into Uber rides or Uber Eats treats – and now they can collect points when ordering Sainsbury’s groceries through Uber Eats too.

“It’s another way we’re helping customers get more from Nectar, whether they’re stocking up on essentials, planning dinner or making everyday life that little bit easier.”

Uber Eats partners with more than 700,000 restaurants and merchants, including speciality local favourites, national brand names, groceries and household essentials, and has an average global delivery time of 30 minutes.

Katie Hunter, Uber Eats general manager for grocery and retail in the UK, added: “We know how much Uber Eats customers love Nectar, so bringing points directly to their Sainsbury’s orders was a no-brainer.

“Now, they can collect Nectar points on all their Sainsbury’s essentials as well as spending them across the entire Uber app. It’s all about delivering flexibility, convenience, and value for customers right alongside their favourite groceries.”
