Carlos Alcaraz has shared several photos on Instagram showing his hair in cornrow braids, and fans are having their say about the style across social media. The post captioned “July” also features several images of him at the World Cup final a week-and-a-half ago, Alcaraz’s most recent high-profile public appearance, in which his hair was not braided.
Alcaraz, 23, also changed up his hairstyle 12 months ago, sporting a buzz cut that drew comparisons with David Beckham during last year’s US Open, which the Spaniard won. He then bleached it blonde ahead of the Laver Cup before returning to his natural brown colour and growing it out again over the off-season in time for his Australian Open success.
The former world No.1 showed off a strikingly long and floppy look during the World Cup final, where he was part of the Louis Vuitton trophy trunk ceremonial presentation before kick-off alongside South Korean fashion model and actress Hoyeon. Alcaraz also appeared several times on the match’s television broadcast while watching Spain beat Argentina after extra time, thanks to a goal from Ferran Torres, with whom the seven-time Grand Slam champion posed for a photo afterwards.
Their image was one of 16 that Alcaraz included in his post, but the ones showing off his cornrows drew the most comments. One called it the “unexpected hairstyle of the summer”.
Another reads: “From Blondecaraz to Cornrowlitos, he keeps tennis stylish & fun!” A further comment said: “For 2 hot seconds… I thought I was looking at a young Drake, sorry Carlos, but glad you’re enjoying the summer”.
Others referenced his impending return from a wrist injury alongside their acknowledgement of his hair. “Can’t wait to see you and the braids back on court,” someone said. Along the same lines came the response: “The hair we need you to take to the US Open!!”
His fellow tennis player were also in the comments. Matteo Berretini‘s response was “Vaya haircut”, the operative word being “wow”, while Zizou Bergs called it “Badass hair”.
Marc Cucurella, who has also recently braided his hair, commented, “Trencitas de fantasia”, which translates to English as “fantasy braids”. Torres also replied to being tagged in the post, simply saying “Buen juliooo,” meaning “good July”.
