Psychotherapist and relationship expert Anna Williamson suffered a blunder when she met King Charles. The Celebs Go Dating star, 46, has been a dedicated ambassador for The King’s Trust for over 17 years and has frequently worked alongside the monarch at various youth achievement awards and royal events.
Anna, who has returned with the second series of her award-winning podcast, The Affair, recalled a near miss encounter that had the royal “peeling” her off him. In an exclusive chat with Express, she also discussed her show which launched in 2025 that gives listeners an inside look into infidelity, before she dished on her first interaction with Charles.
“Well, my first interaction with him was slightly embarrassing,” she explained, “because I was a little nervous, as most people are when they meet someone super famous.”
Anna went on: “Now, I see him I have to actually remind myself he is a monarch, and I have to remind myself of protocol, not to call him ‘mate.’
“On quite a lot of occasions I see the king backstage at an event where I’m having to brief him on something. But when I first met him, I didn’t fully commit to a curtsy, I sort of did it all a bit wrong.
I ended up falling over and sort of into the king, who had to peel me off him.”
Anna admitted the royal laughed off the incident as she says the king often reminds her about the blunder.
She shared: “I do remember the second time I saw His Majesty, he looked at me, he smiled and wagged his finger and went, ‘oh it’s you.’ And now, it’s become a firm joke. Now, whenever I see him, there is almost this sort of, ‘oh gosh, here she is, the absolute liability.'”
Anna has met Charles on several occasions since their first meeting.
She added, “He’s an extremely nice man who cares very much about his charity.”
Meanwhile, Anna is back with a second series of The Affair podcast and has also launched a further weekly episode as listeners get to hear follow-up stories from the show’s previous guests.
“We have launched The Affair with Anna Williamson: What Happened Next?, which is a second weekly drop episode because lots of people wanted to know what happened next,” she explained.
Anna continued: “Some of the guests had real cliffhanger moments and we didn’t know how things turned out for them. So my guests have come back voluntarily to give us an update on what’s happened with their life and their story.”
