Prince Louis has once again stolen the hearts of the nation after making a wonderfully candid confession about his gymnastics skills during Saturday’s (August 1) official outing. The eight-year-old prince joined his parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, alongside older siblings Prince George, 13, and Princess Charlotte, 11, for an action-packed day out at Glasgow 2026.
Among a series of charming interactions throughout the family trip to the Commonwealth Games, a cheekily relatable exchange about gymnastics had onlookers grinning. While visiting Wales House in the centre of Glasgow, the family stopped to chat with identical twin gymnasts Abigail and Emily Roper, who had both picked up bronze medals earlier in the week. As the Princess of Wales asked the athletes about their rigorous stretching and conditioning routines, Catherine turned to her youngest son to share a peek into their home life.
“Louis, you’re perfecting your handstand at the moment,” Catherine said.
Standing with his arms crossed, the young prince offered a hilariously honest progress report:
“A bit,” Louis admitted shyly, before adding: “But Charlotte says I’m not very good.”
The twin gymnasts quickly turned to Charlotte to ask if she could perform one, to which the 11-year-old princess confirmed, “Yeah.”
Prince George was quick to distance himself from any acrobatic feats when asked the same question. The 13-year-old drew laughs from both his mother and the athletes as he confessed: “I’m rubbish at anything that involves flexibility.”
Charlotte’s passion for movement didn’t stop at handstands, however. She revealed her favourite element of gymnastics is the floor exercise, with Catherine chiming in that “Charlotte likes her dancing,” and Prince William adding: “She loves gymnastics and ballet.”
The Welsh gymnastic stars were so delighted by the young princess’s enthusiasm that they presented Charlotte with a signed Team Wales leotard to mark the special meeting.
The trip marked Prince Louis’ first public sporting engagement and the first time all three children have been pictured together at an official event in Scotland. From updating the official medal tally board to watching tense netball semi-finals and cycle racing at the velodrome, the young royals had a day to remember – even if Louis still has a bit of handstand practice ahead of him.
