After developing an unprecedented and progressive spinal curvature, known, 10-year-old Macie Perna feared her love for playing softball may be lost forever. But, a life-changing operation at Shriners Children’s Philadelphia called Vertebral Body Tethering, or VBT, hit those fears out of the park. Just six weeks later, Perna was back on the field stronger than ever before. Now, at 16, she has no restrictions and big dreams. Macie and her mother Michelle join TODAY’s Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones to talk about her health journey and her role as a Shriners Children’s International Patient Ambassador. She even gets a surprise from her favorite college athlete! (Sponsored by Shriners Children’s)
