Aldi said its £3.30 ‘surprise bags’, which include £10 worth of food nearing its sell-by or use-by date, would be made available five days in advance ahead of Easter. The bags are ordered using the Too Good To Go app and allow UK stores, cafés and restaurants across the UK to sell perishable products to customers at a discount.
They are normally only available 24 hours in advance. The Grocer reported that shoppers in England and Wales will be able to order Too Good To Go ‘Surprise Bags’ from Monday, April 14, for collection on Saturday, April 19, ahead of stores closing on Easter Sunday (April 20).
Big names which also offer surprise bags aimed at cutting food waste include Pret, Gail’s, Morrisons, SPAR, Greggs and Pizza Express.
Aldi said it was making the bags available five days in advance to give its customers flexibility over the bank holiday weekend.
Luke Emery, Aldi UK’s national sustainability director, said: “We know the Too Good To Go surprise bags are very popular with shoppers, and with stores set to close on Easter Sunday, we’re offering even more flexibility to reserve a bargain in advance.
“We’re proud of our long-standing partnership with Too Good To Go as part of our commitment to encourage everyone to prevent food waste together.
“It also means our customers can save even more money when shopping at Aldi and prevent unsold food from going to waste.”
Alid said it had saved one million ‘surprise bags’ of unsold food from going to waste through its partnership with Too Good To Go.
You can check for your local Aldi on the Too Good To Go app from 10pm to collect the next day here.
