An ambulance driver killed six elderly people and was recorded telling his friend that he “enjoyed doing it”. Luca Spada, 27, is suspected of murdering six by injecting lethal doses of air into their veins in Forlì, northern Italy. When air enters the circulatory system, it can travel to the brain, heart, or lungs and cause a heart attack, stroke, or respiratory failure. After noticing people in Spada’s ambulance dying mysteriously, the cops tapped his phone. He allegedly considered himself an “angel of death”.

In a call to his friend, prosecutors claim Spada can clearly be heard saying: “These poor old people are suffering too much.

“It’s right that they go before the Good Lord.

“And anyway, I really enjoyed doing it.

“In fact, I have to do it again as soon as possible.”

Spada has been arrested on suspicion of murdering 85-year-old Deanna Mambelli by using an empty syringe to create an air bubble in her veins. Deanna was “perfectly fine” before she left her nursing home on November 25, 2025, according to her daughter-in-law Monica Biondi.

She was being driven just over a mile to hospital for check-ups, but she arrived dead. Deanna had suffered a violent death, with a serious heart attack, an autopsy revealed. According to investigators, Spada had injected a massive dose of air into the woman’s veins at the start of the drive that caused her horrifying death, The Sun reports.

Spada said he was “relaxed about the situation”, adding: “I’ve always said I was just unlucky.”

He denied the killings, saying: “I have nothing to do with these events – I’m a good guy.

“They were very elderly people, and we always implemented the necessary protocols. The rest will be clarified by the relevant authorities.”

Deanna’s daughter-in-law Monica told La Repubblica: “Everything happened very quickly: at 4.30pm, nonna was dead, and at 6.30pm they seized the body, the Carabinieri arrived at the hospital.

“They never told us why. We never knew anything about this whole story, we never received official communications about why this autopsy was necessary or what had happened. We hope that now, finally, clarity will be achieved.”

The case is similar to one which happened in the UK in 2023. Lucy Letby, a former neonatal nurse at the Countess of Chester Hospital, was convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others between June 2015 and June 2016. She targeted premature infants by injecting air into their bodies, poisoning them with insulin, or force-feeding them milk.
