A homeowner has shared an easy trick for removing heat stains after testing five different methods. Posting on TikTok as @Xomyhome, the DIY and design blogger explained that she’d accidentally left heat stains on her wooden furniture and wanted to remove the unsightly marks.
Keen to fix her problem, the social media user tested out five popular cleaning methods to see which delivered the best results. She told viewers: “I made a mistake and left a hot tea mug on my coffee table that left not one but two heat rings. So the internet says it can be fixed with a few different methods, so let’s give it a try.”
The blogger started her test by using household items to try and tackle the rings. She explained: “I started with the easiest method of rubbing white toothpaste directly on the stain until it was fully covered. Nothing seemed to happen.
“So I wiped it off and moved on to the next easiest method, mayonnaise. I slathered a generous amount all over the stain, let it sit for 10 minutes, and absolutely nothing happened.”
Unimpressed with the results, she tried using heat next. She said: “Starting with the hair dryer, I vigorously blow-dried the stain until my arms gave out. The stain is still living its best damn life.”
For her next attempt, the blogger used her iron. “I placed the damp cloth over the stain, ironed on top of it with medium heat, moving it around, because we don’t want to make it worse,” she explained.
“After a few seconds, I lifted the iron. Oh, that worked really well. I repeated the process until the smaller stain was completely lifted. Moving on to the larger stain, and this one was definitely a lot more stubborn. I’m pretty confident that if I keep at it with the iron, it will come off.”
She also tried wipes she’d purchased from Amazon. “Someone did recommend these wipes to me, and since I already have them, I figured why not give them a try and see if it works as well.
“I got this reusable cloth from Amazon, and it’s meant to erase the white rings and haze caused by heat and moisture, and it’s 100% guaranteed, according to the package. So I rubbed it directly on the stain, and after a few minutes, the stain did lift.”
Despite this, the homeowner preferred her previous method. She said: “It did leave a slight sheen on the table. It’s not too noticeable, but I do think the iron and the cloth was the best method. But maybe we can just avoid the stain altogether by using a coaster.”
Concluding her video, the blogger said: “Tested five different methods so you don’t have to! You can easily remove heat/water stains from wood table with an iron and cloth. A number of people swore that the toothpaste and mayo works but you have to leave it overnight. I didn’t try leaving it that long but I would rather just iron the stain out in a few minutes then wait hours.”
