Sometimes, when you’re feeling poorly, you can’t stomach much more than soup. But there are some soup recipes that are bound to make you feel a little better, and can even boost your immunity.
This hopefully means that you’ll feel rubbish for a shorter period of time, and can get back to doing the things that you love.
TikToker Cile Wells, who posts as @cilesmeals, shared a recipe she’d seen from @wishbonekitchen that promises to make you feel that little bit better when you’re under the weather. “It’s essentially Italian penicillin soup with shredded chicken and rice. Would also be great with Pastina,” she explained.
But the ginger and turmeric in this recipe are bound to help you feel better imminently. Ginger can help strengthen your immune system thanks to its high antioxidant content, and it touts anti-inflammatory and antibiotic properties, alongside antiviral and antibacterial ones too, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Turmeric may also boost your immune system because of its main active compound, curcumin, which has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Curcumin is a polyphenol with anti-inflammatory properties and the ability to boost the amount of antioxidants your cells can make.
With that in mind, these two ingredients are absolute powerhouses to consume when you’re feeling rubbish.
Cile wrote in her caption: “All you do is sweat out chopped carrot, celery, white onion and garlic. Add thyme and bone broth of your choice.
“I also grated in some fresh turmeric and ginger for extra immunity boosting. Add salt and pepper. Let this cook until the vegetables are soft, and then blend with an immersion blender.
“If you’re using an enamel pot, make sure that you’re careful with the immersion blender so as not to scrape the enamel.
“Once everything is blended to your liking, add a tablespoon of chicken bouillon, a couple of cups of cooked rice and a couple of cups of your shredded chicken.
“Mixed together, add extra salt and pepper to taste. I served with shredded Parm and black pepper on top!
“This is great to help kick your sickness, boost your immunity and works awesome as leftovers to eat throughout the week!”
She also said that it was a really “comforting” soup to eat, as people were saying they “needed” it because they were sick at the minute and couldn’t “keep anything down”.
“So we’re all sick at the minute huh?” one woman joked.
Others said that it felt “nostalgic” and reminded them of a soup their grandparents or parents made for them when they were feeling under the weather.
