Blackwall Tunnel closed: Huge tailbacks as van catches fire | UK | News

Traffic in east London came to a standstill after Blackwall Tunnel had to be evacuated and closed on August 28.

The closure was prompted by a van catching fire in the east London tunnel at around 12pm. The tunnel’s northbound lane is closed.

Traffic was diverted from the A102 at Woolwich Road, Transport for London said. Tailbacks were reported on the motorway from Greenwich to Poplar and the Woolwich Road Flyover.

No injuries were immediately reported, and the van driver was able to escape from the vehicle ablaze.
