British Gas has outlined why households will soon see reduced energy costs. Starting from April 1, customers are set to save approximately £117 annually. The energy provider highlighted the change in a YouTube video, following government action to reduce energy bills, reports the Mirror.
British Gas explained that customers do not need to take any action to benefit from the price drop. The reductions will be applied automatically. British Gas said: “Green levies that were previously added to energy bills have now been removed by the government.
“This change helps to lower bills on all tariffs, and the government has promised to keep this in place until 2029. The government is reducing energy bills by £150.
“After changes to April’s price cap, a typical dual fuel household will see bills fall by around £117 a year. How much you save will depend on your actual energy use. The discount applies to all tariffs, including fixed.
“So whichever tariff you’re on, everyone will benefit from the savings. Prices will be lowered automatically from 1st April. There’s nothing you need to do.”
In the video, there was further advice from British Gas employee Paul Lodwidge, who said he looks after energy products and customer offers. He said the £117 saving is based on a typical dual-fuel household. Paul added: “How much you save will depend on your actual energy usage.”
Paul emphasised that the change applies automatically. He said: “We’ll automatically lower your prices from April 1, so you can start saving straight away. There’s nothing you need to do.
“We’re also keeping a close eye on what’s happening with the global events and wholesale energy prices. We’ll share updates on our website as things change.”
Guidance on the British Gas website says: “We know the energy market feels uncertain right now, but we’ll keep you updated as things unfold. Rest assured your rates are protected for the current price cap period (1 April – 30 June) And that we have lots of help and support available for customers who need it.”
