British Gas customers can expect their bills to go down from this week. From April 1, customers can expect to pay around £117 less each year on their energy bills. The energy supplier highlighted the change in a Facebook post, explaining that the update applies to all tariffs.
In a post shared on Wednesday (April 1), British Gas wrote: “Starting today, you’ll see a reduction in your energy bills with savings of around £117 on average. These reduced rates are valid until the end of June and apply to all tariffs, including fixed ones.
“We’ve lowered prices automatically, so there’s nothing you need to do. ️When the energy market feels uncertain, we are committed to keeping you updated.”
In the video, a British Gas employee explained: “From today, you will see a reduction in the price you pay for energy, with savings of around £117 for the average duel fuel bill. This will be reflected in the unit rate you pay for energy, and these rates will be in place until the end of June.
“These savings apply to all tariffs, including the fixed tariffs. We have automatically lowered your prices. There is nothing you need to do. We know many will be worried about what might happen with future prices.
“It’s still too soon to know what will happen, as Ofgem sets prices over a three-month window. If you’re on a fixed tariff, then any price movements will not affect you until you come to the end of your fixed period. Now, for those on our tracker tariff, your price will always be below the price cap.
“If you’re not sure what tariff you’re on, you want to check your new rate, you can do this by logging onto your online account or checking your next energy bill. For anyone who is struggling with the cost of their energy, please get in touch with us because there are lots of ways we can help.”
The change follows government action to reduce energy bills. In a previous post, British Gas explained: “Green levies that were previously added to energy bills have now been removed by the government.
“This change helps to lower bills on all tariffs, and the government has promised to keep this in place until 2029. The government is reducing energy bills by £150.”
Advice on the British Gas website adds: “We know the energy market feels uncertain right now, but we’ll keep you updated as things unfold. Rest assured your rates are protected for the current price cap period (1 April – 30 June) And that we have lots of help and support available for customers who need it.”
